If you are a stalwart like me (stubborn and Luddite might be appropriate descriptive words as well) who hates Microsoft Word and still uses WordPerfect, you may have the occasional need to view a WordPerfect document on your iPad.
I first wrote an article on the available apps for that purpose back in 2014, and I am happy to say that both have been maintained by the publishers and are still available. Both programs are strictly viewers; you cannot edit a document directly.
There are only two such apps (that I am aware of). The first is WordPerfect Viewer iPad, which was free when I first reviewed it, but is now $5.99. It is only a viewer, and is basic as basic can be. It at best allows you to see the words in the document, with little or no formatting. It gets only 2.3 out of 5 start on the app store.
The other app is WPD Reader. It is a buck cheaper, and far better rated at 4.6 out of 5 stars. Great program. As soon as I installed it, a “WPD” folder was created in my iCloud. From my PC, I can just drag and drop any file into my iCloud directory.
It preserves most of the formatting. I noticed only that on court documents, the pleading numbers are not shown. You can two-finger pinch to zoom in and out of documents, something WordPerfect Viewer does not do. And while you can’t directly edit a WordPerfect file, you can export to Word and edit from there. You can also send it to PDF.
Of the two, there is really no choice. WPD Reader is not a perfect solution, but you could actually work with a WordPerfect document on your iPad in a pinch. As a free app, WordPerfect Viewer was worth downloading to at least enable you to see the text in your document, but there would be no reason to pay for it when WPD Reader is available.
Where can I find the WP for iPad app?? I, too, hate Word and will only use WP!! HELP ME!
I checked the app store, and WordPerfect viewer is still available for free, although the reviews aren’t great. If you are willing to invest $5, there is an app called WPD Reader that is rated very highly.
